Veggies all round at Sportsbet Melbourne Cup Heats

Mark Kennedy of Avondale Heights is still pinching himself after leaving Sandown Park a big winner on Saturday night.

Kennedy, who works in law enforcement, was the third winner in the Chase Your Dream promotion, in which over $100,000 in cash and prizes is being given away to people attending greyhound racing’s 2023 Sportsbet Dream Chasers Festival at The Meadows and Sandown Park during November and December.

He was one of eight lucky patrons on course at the Melbourne Cup Heats that were drawn and allocated a greyhound in Race 9 – Heat 5 of the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup – as part of the promotion.

As the eighth person drawn, Mark was allocated the number eight dog, Fabs Vegetable, who produced a huge come-from-behind run to be first across the line.

As such, Mark got to choose a box to reveal his prize, and decided to go with number four, which revealed a $5000 grocery voucher. That’s enough to buy plenty of vegetables!

“It was a massive run by Fabs Vegetable,” Mark said.

“I’ve seen the replay about 10 times!

“Four has always been my lucky number, so I went with that and I feel very fortunate to have won such a great prize.

“My wife and I try to eat healthy and my daughters love their chocolate so a voucher of this size will come in very handy.”

A regular at Sandown Park on the big nights, Mark will return to the track on Saturday for the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup Final in the hope of having his name drawn again.
