A tour group from Ireland and the UK were at Sandown Park for last Saturday night’s Sportsbet Melbourne Cup heats.
Racing.com’s Gareth Hall caught up with Nathan Corden and Paul Lawrence, who are part of the travelling contingent.
“It’s great to be here,” Corden said. “There’s 24 of us, half from Ireland and half from the UK and we’re really impressed with the set up over here.”
Lawrence added that the tour group had been “blown away” by what they had seen.
“In England we’re kind of envious about what happens in Australia because of the prize money.”
“The way that you sell the product is so, so good, and that’s what attracts a lot of the English and Irish punters and owners and breeders to look at what’s happening in Australia.”
“We’ve been blown away. Especially with Victoria. It’s just on a different level.””
