Power And Glory Out Of Topgun, Retired
Saturday night’s Group 1 Topgun has been robbed of one of its major drawcards with Power And Glory withdrawn from the invitational feature at The Meadows.

Saturday night’s Group 1 Topgun has been robbed of one of its major drawcards with Power And Glory withdrawn from the invitational feature at The Meadows.
And trainer Ken Burnett has confirmed the Golden Easter Egg and Million Dollar Chase hero has run his last race after suffering a hip support injury on Wednesday morning.
“He was having his last slip up my straight at home before Saturday night and it (hip support) went half way up,” Burnett said.
“The plan was to head down to Melbourne tomorrow and give him a couple of days to settle in before Saturday night.
“But it’s all over now. It’s devastating. We’ll move on to the next chapter.
“He’s been a mighty dog. I’ll never get another one like him.”
Power And Glory was to take aim at the Topgun from box four where he was considered one of the leading contenders for the $150,000-to-the-winner feature.
The son of Hooked On Scotch trialled at The Meadows in terrific style two weeks ago before finishing a beaten favourite at his first start at the track last Wednesday.
Yet despite the defeat, Burnett was returning for a Topgun tilt this weekend supremely confident his powerhouse chaser was in the race up to his ears.
“I thought he was perfectly boxed in the four,” Burnett said.
“He came up with the lids last week and I was certain it was the run he needed there to produce his best this week.
“But it doesn’t matter for much now. Just devastated.”
Power And Glory retires as the winner of 18 from 36 starts with prize money of $1.4 million.

Winner of the Golden Easter Egg and Million Dollar Chase in 2025, Power And Glory boasts any number of slashing times on his resume, including the Bulli 472 metre track record at 25.76.
Remarkably, he ran 29.15 at Wentworth Park when annexing both his majors in the Easter Egg and Million Dollar Chase.
“He’s given us so many great moments,” Burnett said.
“We’ll move on to the next chapter now at stud which myself and his owner Jeff (Eastburn) are looking forward to.
“If anything he was probably too fast for his own good.
“Just a mighty, special dog.”
Power And Glory’s scratching from the Topgun will see Slick Splits take his place in the field.
