Pass The Buck locked in
TAB has announced it has secured a greyhound for the third running of the world’s richest Greyhound race, The Phoenix.
TAB has announced it has secured a greyhound for the third running of the world’s richest Greyhound race, The Phoenix.
Pass The Buck will get the chance to chase down the $1m winners’ cheque, representing the TAB slot, at The Meadows on Saturday, December 16.
The Phoenix is a slot race run under similar conditions to the TAB Everest, with a total prize purse of $1.65m.
Pass The Buck, 24-months-old and a rising star of the sport, has won eight of his 10 career starts and boasts a scorching 29.67sec PB at The Meadows.
Anthony Azzopardi, trainer of Pass The Buck, is confident of the dog running a bold race, and has a unique approach to the box draw.
“I know this might sound crazy, but we really like Box 3 or 4 for him. We are not afraid to draw the middle because we are confident he can beat them out of any box and get clear,” Azzopardi told TAB media.
“I’m thrilled to be racing Pass The Buck in The Phoenix.”
Azzopardi has a history of winning some of Australia’s biggest Group greyhound races, including the 2019 Melbourne Cup.
Pass The Buck is currently at $8 in the pre-box draw market.
You can watch the box draw live on the TAB App, or Sky 2 (527 on Foxtel), this Sunday, December 10, from 10:30am.
